About the Artist
Jeffrey Lou has been a professional Chinese ink brush painter and watercolorist for over 30 years. Growing up in rural China was an enormous influence in Jeffrey becoming an artist. His sources of inspiration were the natural surroundings of his hometown, especially the creeks that flowed throughout the scenic village in southeast China .
Jeffrey demonstrated his artistic talents in early childhood. Studying with several well-known masters in China , he mastered the intricate techniques of Chinese ink painting and traditional seal carving. He is also well known for his devotion and dedication in creating innovative art forms.
As a full time professional artist, Jeffrey embarked on a journey to combine traditional Chinese brush painting and Western wet-on-wet techniques into his uniquely established color-ink artwork. His artistic style and flair has successfully enriched the syntax and pushed the boundaries of color, design and perspective in ink brush painting.
Since 1980, Jeffrey's artwork has appeared in numerous publications and exhibited nationally in various juried events and galleries in China . He moved to the United States in the early 1990's, where again, his artwork has been well received in exhibitions in Reno , San Francisco , and New York City . Jeffrey is an enthusiastic cultural advocator, founding the Gallery of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy in New Jersey , and lecturing at the Art School at Old Church in New Jersey , and the Rockland Center for the Arts in New York . He is also the Vice President of the American International Fine Arts Institute, and a Research Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Research in Asian Art.
